ヨリアイマチヤ
 

京都・五条烏丸の交差点角地に立つ、かつて呉服屋を営んでいた大型の京町家を、人々が集うレンタルスペースへとコンバージョンしたプロジェクト。

人の流れが交わる場所にあり、多様な利用を受け止める場として計画している。

会議やセミナー、お稽古ごと、展示、ギャラリーなど、用途を限定せず、さまざまな営みを受け入れる。

空間は、できるだけ大きく連続したひとまとまりとして知覚されるよう、視線の抜けと空間の連鎖を丁寧に組み立てている。火袋と呼ばれる吹抜けや軸組の骨格が現れ、町家本来の構成が体感される。

1階は中庭へと視線が抜ける大広間とし、会議や集会の場に、滞在の質を高める広がりを与えている。2階にはアーティスト・maisによる襖絵で緩やかに仕切られた板間と茶室を設けた。

「寄り合い」という言葉の持つ、少し懐かしくも開かれた響きから名付けた「ヨリアイマチヤ」。多様な人々と活動をおおらかに受け入れる、これからの地域のよりどころとなることを目指している
 

Located on a corner site at the Gojo-Karasuma intersection in Kyoto, this project converts a large traditional machiya—once operated as a kimono shop—into a shared rental space for gatherings.

Situated where urban flows intersect, the space is designed to accommodate a wide range of uses and activities.

Without limiting its function, the space welcomes meetings, seminars, lessons, exhibitions, and gallery use.

The spatial composition is carefully arranged to be perceived as one continuous volume, with visual connections and sequences extending throughout. The characteristic hibukuro void and exposed timber frame express the inherent structure of the traditional machiya.

On the ground floor, a main hall opens visually toward the courtyard, providing a sense of openness that enhances the quality of stay for gatherings and meetings. On the second floor, a wooden-floored space and a tea room are gently divided by fusuma panels painted by artist mais.

Named “Yoriai Machiya,” inspired by the nostalgic yet open notion of communal gathering, the project aspires to become a place that generously embraces diverse people and activities—a new kind of local anchor for the future.
