大きな屋敷が立ち並ぶ古い集落に建つ、茶道を嗜む夫婦とその子どものための木造2階建て住宅。
一般的な居住プログラムに茶室を付加する計画であった。

整形に区画された敷地は、北側に駐車、南側に庭を確保すると、建築可能な領域は自ずと定まる。
その限られた建坪約16坪の中に、LDK・個室・寝室に加えて、いかに茶室を成立させるかが、この計画の主題となった。

茶室は本来、外部から切り離された閉じた空間であり、また日常の居室と安易に接続されるべきではない。
しかし敷地条件と予算から、離れとして独立させることもできない。

そこで、建築を上下に分節し、その「あいだ」に茶室を挿入する構成とした。
1階の上でもあり、2階の下でもある層に、どちらにも属さない余白としての茶室を設ける。

このとき、上下階の生活の気配や風景は、茶室にとっての背景として取り込まれ、
人のふるまいさえも「見立て」として内包されていく。

その純度を保つため、茶室の層には柱を落とさず、6.37mスパンのトラス梁を用いて上階床を吊り構造とした。
構造的にも上下を切り離すことで、そのあいだの余白を強く際立たせている。

この余白が、空間を縦に貫き、ひとつながりの広がりを生み出す。
各所から差し込む光は、その層を柔らかく満たし、小さな建築に奥行きを与える。

炉の前に身を整えたとき、住宅全体がひとつの茶室として立ち上がる。
 

A two-story wooden house for a couple who practice the tea ceremony and their child, located in a traditional settlement lined with large residences.

The project began with a typical residential program, with the addition of a tea room.
Once parking was placed along the northern road and a private garden secured to the south, the buildable area was naturally defined. Within this limited footprint of approximately 53 m², the central challenge was how to integrate the tea room alongside the living spaces.

A tea room, by its nature, should be a secluded and enclosed space, separated from the outside world. At the same time, it should not be directly adjacent to everyday living areas. However, neither creating a detached structure nor expanding the footprint was feasible.

Instead, the house is vertically divided, and the tea room is inserted in the space between the first and second floors.
It exists as a layer that belongs neither to the floor below nor above—a spatial void.

Within this configuration, the scenes of daily life and human activities from both levels are perceived as part of the tea room’s interior, reinterpreted as its background.

To preserve the purity of this void, no columns are placed within the tea room layer.
A 6.37-meter truss beam spans across the second floor, from which the floor structure is suspended, structurally separating the upper and lower levels.

This intermediate void connects the house vertically, creating a continuous spatial experience.
Natural light filters in from multiple directions, enriching the compact volume with depth and subtle dynamism.

When one composes oneself before the hearth, the entire house transforms into a single tea room.
